Al Ismailia is a real estate development company aiming to develop and restore downtown Cairo buildings and revive Downtown Cairo as an artistic and cultural center in the city. The competition brief stated that the design should have their logo, their company’s color palette, and the buildings they renovated in downtown. The rest was up to the participant. I took from my own experience of downtown, which is seeing it from the inside out. I often go to cafes or visit residents there and see the city view through the old windows and doors. These are elegantly designed and have slender proportions. The winning concept was thus: DOWNTOWN THROUGH THE EYES OF DOWNTOWN.
